This is a traditional door gift called 'Bunga Pahar'..
It's a tradition in Malay weddings to exchange a beautiful tree of flowers between bride & groom .. Traditionally, the tree may come in 30-50 pcs of handmade 'Bunga Telur'. Attached with options of hard boiled eggs or sweet glutenous rice, then poke to banana trunk to form a tree of 'Bunga Pahar'.
Let me describe a little bit about Malay Wedding. Day before the wedding or so called 'Berkampung' is when family members gather to prepares all the essential needs for the wedding.
Years back, there is no such thing as catering or lavish hotel reception like today. Everything was hard work from each family members and neighbor. Yes, everything! From clearing the lawn, construct canopy, cook for the helping hands and reception, decorates the room and 'pelamin' (an altar) for the newly wed, till the small details of doorgift and tidiest things are done together. No not just that, they also clears everything after the wedding's over. This 'Berkampung' gives them opportunity to catch-up and it makes the bond between families and neighbor stronger.
On the big day itself all family members are the host, represent of the bride or groom they make sure everything goes well.. This practice are carried for generations in Malay Wedding called 'Merewang'. They serve and entertain guests themselves.
'Bunga Pahar' are symbol of appreciation. The beautifully handmade crafted flowers then exchanged between the bride's and groom's family. While the rest of guest and neighbour gets 'Bunga Telur'.
However, these days there are many version of 'Bunga Pahar'. Instead of hard boiled eggs, they have either chocolates, candies, cakes or cookies..
This particullar 'Bunga Pahar' i have made for my sister in-law wedding.. Hope this tradition will carried for many more generations..
Watch the clip below how i assemble it..
